Mars & Mountains of Mitchel on July 27, 2020
Mountains of Mitchel
This morning Mars was near perfect in the eyepiece. Everything came together, steady
atmosphere, clear skies and a good cup of coffee. Mars held steady at 309x and even
allowed short periods at 413x. This was my first observation, during this opposition, of
the "Mountains of Mitchel" where a section of the South Polar Cap splits off and appears
as a white island separated from the rest of the Polar Cap.
